Every summer Ontario Northland undertakes critical infrastructure work along the railway to ensure we meet industry safety standards and continue to provide safe, reliable and efficient transportation services to communities and businesses in the North.

Our top priority is to mitigate disruptions to communities and businesses as much as possible as this work is completed.

Matheson WHAT: Continuous Welded Rail/ Northlander Project
WHY: In order to ensure safe and efficient rail service, ONTC performs an annual rail and tie upgrading program.

Connaught WHAT: Continuous Welded Rail
WHY: In order to ensure safe and efficient rail service, ONTC performs an annual rail and tie upgrading program.
COMMUNITY IMPACT: Evening and overnight work, loud equipment, working on track.
Cochrane WHAT: Continuous Welded Rail
WHY: In order to ensure safe and efficient rail service, ONTC performs an annual rail and tie upgrading program.

Englehart WHAT: Continuous Welded Rail

Feronia WHAT: Continuous Welded Rail

Ramore Sub Division WHAT: Continuous Welded Rail
WHY: In order to ensure safe and efficient rail service, ONTC performs an annual rail and tie upgrading program.

Kapuskasing - Echo Lake Area WHAT: Bridge Work. Scope of work includes slip line of existing concrete arch culvert.
WHY: Management of safe passage of all rail traffic. (equipment, freight and passenger)
COMMUNITY IMPACT: Potential noise disruption to any household with vicinity of 100 meters, no overnight work, no impact to road traffic
Mattice WHAT: Bridge Work. Scope of work includes slip line of existing concrete arch culvert.
WHY: Management of safe passage of all rail traffic. (equipment, freight and passenger)
COMMUNITY IMPACT: Potential noise disruption to any household with vicinity of 100 meters, no overnight work, no impact to road traffic
Kapuskasing WHAT: Bridge Work. Scope of work includes refacing of concrete abutments and piers, steel bearing replacement and various steel repairs on superstructure. Some in-water work chipping concrete and refacing concrete abutments and piers.
WHY: Management of safe passage of all rail traffic. (equipment, freight and passenger)
COMMUNITY IMPACT: Minimal noise disruption
Moosonee - Cheepas River WHAT: Bridge Work. Scope of work includes refacing of concrete abutments and piers, steel bearing replacement and various steel repairs on superstructure. Some in-water work chipping concrete and refacing concrete abutments and piers.
WHY: Management of safe passage of all rail traffic. (equipment, freight and passenger)
COMMUNITY IMPACT: No noise disruption, no overnight work, no impact to road traffic.
North Bay WHAT: Bolted Rail
WHY: In order to ensure safe and efficient rail service, ONTC performs an annual rail and tie upgrading program.
