Ontario Northland Transportation Commission - Overview

The Ontario Northland Transportation Commission (Ontario Northland; ONTC), an agency of the Province of  Ontario, was established in 1902 and is a recognized leader in promoting sustainable economic growth by establishing and operating transportation and telecommunication links throughout northern Ontario.

Headquartered in North Bay and operating primarily in northeastern Ontario, Ontario Northland’s non‑commercial or provincially-mandated services include:

  • the Northlander (passenger train service between Cochrane and Toronto);
  • the Little Bear (freight and passenger train service between Cochrane and Moosonee); and
  • the Polar Bear Express (summer excursion train between Cochrane and Moosonee).

Commercial services include:

  • the Dream Catcher Express (fall excursion train between North Bay and Temagami);
  • scheduled motor coach services;
  • charter and rental motor coach services;
  • Bus Parcel Express;
  • refurbishment services;
  • rail freight and contract services
  • Ontera telecommunication services.

The company boasts 1,000 employees, who live and work in northern Ontario and northwestern Quebec.
