GO Transit Contract to Refurbish Up to 121 Commuter Cars

In February 2004, Ontario Northland was awarded an $81 million GO Transit contract to refurbish 121 commuter cars over a six year period.  Work on the commuter cars began in August 2004 and, with all processes having been developed, it now takes us 88 days to refurbish each car.  This means that, at full capacity, a refurbished car is being delivered every two weeks.

As of May 2008, the 109 employees who are employed specifically on this project, had successfully delivered 44 completely refurbished commuter cars to our customers at GO Transit.

“…the cars are absolutely stunning…”
Peter Lloyd, acting Director of Rail Services with GO Transit, indicated that the scope of work on the cars currently being refurbished by Ontario Northland is the most involved and requires the most work of any refurbishment program that his company has ever tendered.  He then went on to say that “the quality of the cars being refurbished by Ontario Northland is top notch and that the cars are absolutely stunning.  ... This is a direct result of the pride that Ontario Northland employees put into their work.”

He further commented that he “challenges anyone to distinguish between an Ontario Northland refurbished car and a new car.”
