Ontario Northland will be hiring students for summer employment.  The positions will be in Cochrane and Moosonee. 
We are looking for students who will be attending an accredited post secondary school in the Fall.

Please note: confirmation of attendance during the 2015/2016 school year (i.e. photocopy of student card, class schedule, etc.) will be required prior to the commencement of employment.

Post Secondary students interested in applying for a position may do so by sending an application and/or resume to the Human Resources Department as soon as possible.  Secondary School students are welcome to apply providing they are 16 years of age or older and confirmation of attendance is attached.

TITLE:                       Spare Express Freight Services Worker - Cochrane

 

REPORTS TO:          Express Services Supervisor

 

LOCATION:               Cochrane

 

 

 

FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Maintains timely and accurate inventory records for Yard, Train & Express activities based on communication with operating crews and other external and internal customers.
  • Communicates with customers through personal contact and telephone, providing rates, shipping details and timelines including the preparation of waybills/reports and their subsequent delivery.
  • Performs warehouse duties ensuring local freight is placed for delivery and transship freight is dispatched to correct outbound cars (weighing up to 75 pounds).
  • Weighs outgoing traffic at scale and ensures these details are correctly entered on waybills.
  • Loads and unloads customers’ prepaid vehicles on designated flat cars secured in accordance with current standards and collects revenue as required.
  • Loads and unloads customers’ baggage in designated baggage/line cars and baggage kiosks.
  • CSU Duties as required.
  • Janitorial responsibilities at Cochrane Station Inn, Express and Yard offices.
  • Performs above and such other duties as required by Management.

 

 QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Completion of secondary school or recognized equivalent required.
  • Preference will be given to qualified applicants who are fluent in (English, French and Cree).
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be committed to Company Health and Safety standards and practices.Must have a sound working knowledge of computers and appropriate keyboarding skills.
  • Must be available for shift work.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and be able to operate motorized warehouse equipment.
  • Railway experience as asset.

DUTIES:

 

  • Assists with the ongoing maintenance of a motor coach fleet
  • Performs brake, safety and PM inspections
  • Repairs vehicle defects and handles minor repairs
  • Service calls as required with possible on road repairs
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures
  • Complies with all Safety & Health regulations within the workplace
  • Adheres to all governing transportation regulations

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Must hold a valid 310T Trade Certificate
  • Must hold a valid DZ drivers license
  • Previous work experience of motor coach maintenance is an asset
  • Previous work experience with Detroit S60 & Volvo D13 engines, B500 & ZF Astronic Transmissions and I/O and Vansco Multiplex Systems and knowledge of DPF systems is an asset
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must be able to work in a unionized environment
  • Must be available for shift work
  • Must be committed to Company Health and Safety
  • Must be willing to accept temporary assignments at other locations (North Bay & Sudbury)

TITLE:                         Communications Manager (One Year Contract) 800-035-14

 

REPORTS TO:            Director of Marketing and Communication


LOCATION:                 North Bay

 

MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Coordinating and developing the communication products such as: internal communications, marketing materials, media releases, collateral materials, promotional materials and corporate publications.
  • Responsible for either directly producing materials or managing the production using external vendors.
  • Works with government officials to coordinate external communications and may be called upon to act as the company’s spokesperson.
  • Coordinates media responses in English and French.
  • Responsible for writing, producing and distributing internal communications including emails and the company newsletter and the ON News.
  • Provides communication advice and support to the leadership team.
  • Monitors and records all media coverage and alerts executive of communication issues.
  • Produces content for company social media accounts including: Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and Instagram. Produce and write content for social media including text, video and photography.
  • Coordinates and plans corporate events. Attends events and acts as a representative for Ontario Northland.
  • Acts as a role model for the Company’s culture.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Ÿ  College diploma or university degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, business administration or another related field.

Ÿ  Minimum two years of work experience with media, government or a communications department.

Ÿ  Experience with social media and crisis communications would be an asset.

Ÿ  Must be detail-oriented and organized in order to handle multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.

Ÿ  Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.

Ÿ  Proactive, fast learner with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.

Ÿ  Familiarity with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Drupal CMS considered an asset.

Ÿ  Strong grammar, spelling and proofreading skills.

Ÿ  Proficiency in both official languages (English and French).

Ÿ  Some travel required.
