TITLE: Engineering Technologist, Technical Writer
REPORTS TO: Manager Information Control, Refurbishment Division


SUMMARY
:


The Engineering Technologist will be required to assist in the interpretation of Customer Scope of Work requirements and produce AutoCAD engineered drawings and technical procedures for the manufacturing/refurbishment projects related to railway, passenger, transit and freight cars. The Technologist will also be required to collaborate extensively with production supervisors to gather practical working knowledge in the achievement of best practice solutions.


DUTIES
:

  • Researches engineering and manufacturing customer scope of work requirements and writes detailed technical manufacturing instructions for the removal, reconditioning, assembling and installation of production parts.
  • Interprets and prepares engineering mechanical and electrical blueprints.
  • Works with Quality Assurance to assist with the development of Inspection and Test Procedures and develop written instructions.
  • Creates and/or verifies Engineering Change Notices to assure compliance to Scope of Work revisions.
  • Liaises with Engineering Department and Management Change Committee regarding Change Notices, Revisions and Manufacturing issues.
  • Makes necessary revisions to AutoCad drawings, Technical and QA documentation resulting from Change Notices
  • Provides detailed Bills of Material for Installation, Assemblies and Sub Assembly designs
  • Ability to manage and act on multiple projects and priorities.
  • Supports continuous improvement initiatives through LEAN methodology.
  • Assist with Proposal Preparation
  • Must be committed to Company Health and Safety

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Engineering Technician/Technology diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Mechanical Drafting training and AutoCAD
  • Experience in writing technical documentation related to manufacturing Methods and Procedures
  • Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience in the rail industry is an asset
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Functional French (written and spoken) a significant asset
