TITLE:              Director Human Resources
REPORTS TO:  Chief Operating Officer
DEPARTMENT: Human Resources
LOCATION:       North Bay

FUNCTION:

The Human Resources Director originates and leads Human Resources practices and objectives that will provide an employee-oriented, high performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and standards, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Human Resources Director coordinates implementation of services, policies, and programs through Human Resources staff; and assists and advises company managers, union leaders, and the Commission about Human Resources issues.

The Human Resources Director will be responsible for leading the entire human resources function across the company, including:

  • Develops organization strategies by identifying and researching human resources issues; contributing information, analysis, and recommendations to organization strategic thinking and direction; establishing human resources objectives in line with organizational objectives.
  • Implements human resources strategies by establishing department accountabilities, including talent acquisition, staffing, employment processing, compensation, benefits (including weekly indemnity/short term disability, WSIB, long term disability), training and development, records management, health and safety/wellness/employee family assistance, succession planning, employee relations and retention and labor relations.
  • Manages human resources operations by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching, counseling, and disciplining staff; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing staff job contributions; maintaining compensation; determining production, productivity, quality, and customer-service strategies; designing systems; accumulating resources; resolving problems; implementing change.
  • Develops human resources operations financial strategies by estimating, forecasting, and anticipating requirements, trends, and variances; aligning monetary resources; developing action plans; measuring and analyzing results; initiating corrective actions; minimizing the impact of variances.
  • Accomplishes special project results by identifying and clarifying issues and priorities; communicating and coordinating requirements; expediting fulfillment; evaluating milestone accomplishments; evaluating optional courses of action; changing assumptions and direction.
  • Supports management by providing human resources advice, counsel, and decisions; analyzing information and applications.
  • Guides management and employee actions by researching, developing, writing, and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines; communicating and enforcing organization values.
  • Complies with federal, and provincial legal requirements, regulations and directives by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in conferences and educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

MAJOR QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Minimum of a CHRP designation, Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Organization Development or eight plus years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources and Labour Relations.
  • Accomplished skills in helping to drive organizational change at the executive level and throughout a large and diverse organization.
  • Broad knowledge and experience in employment law, organizational planning, training and development, employee relations, and health and safety.
  • Above average oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills along with a demonstrated ability to lead and develop employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to be an internal and external strategic business partner, facilitating the implementation of leading edge Human Resources practices.
  • Experience in the administration of pension, benefits and compensation programs and other Human Resources programs.
  • Experience with negotiating collective agreements and working within a heavily unionized environment.
  • Executive team building strategic business partner.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  • General knowledge of various employment laws and practices.
  • Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

TITLE:     Maintenance Assistant (Contract Position)

REPORTING TO:     Manager Facilities Services

LOCATION:     North Bay

FUNCTIONS:

  • Utilizes the OOSS ticket system to log ALL maintenance request details, including regular updating and closing of tickets.
  • Scope of work to include, but not limited to, filter maintenance, minor internal construction, ceiling tiles, doors and locks, window repair, moves, grounds keeping, loading dock(s), lighting, sinks, toilets, energy and elevators.
  • Verifies daily operation of facilities equipment and assists in maintenance of boilers, compressors, HVAC equipment, building mechanicals, elevators, lighting and security.
  • Work with outside contractors on a daily basis for services including, but not limited to, janitorial, grounds keeping, snow removal, plumbers, electricians, painting, flooring, windows, doors, window washing, carpet cleaning with all projects approved by Facilities Manager.
  • Assembles, moves, retrieves and stores records, boxes, furniture, stationary and related office supplies and peripherals.
  • Works with Ontario Northland health and safety department and practices and encourages excellent health and safety habits.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have experience in property maintenance.
    • Some evening and weekend work may be required.
    • Building environmental systems certification is an asset.
    • BOMI certifications including SMT, FMA is an asset.
  • Must be able to perform basic/light maintenance duties including plumbing, electrical, custodial, painting, and construction.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with Honeywell Enterprise Buildings Integrator software is an asset.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Completion of Grade 12 of GED or equivalent.

TITLE:     Sales and Business Development Manager 

REPORTING TO:     Director, of Operations, Refurbishment Division     

LOCATION:     North Bay

SUMMARY: Responsible for building extensive sales leads, developing effective sales proposals and establishing professional relationships resulting in revenue results in excess of quarterly and annual objectives for the refurbishment division.

MAJOR DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To promote and sell:
  • Refurbishment of passenger rail cars
  • Complete locomotive overhaul services, including air compressor, main and auxiliary generator, prime mover, cab upgrades, collision repair.
  • State of the art paint shop services, including passenger rail cars, freight railcars, locomotives, motor coaches, and rail maintenance equipment;
  • Makes telephone calls and personal visits to prospective customers at the transportation management and senior/executive management level;
  • Prepares and delivers presentations to existing and potential customers;
  • Prepares quotations/tenders and proposals/solutions to existing and potential customers;
  • Interfaces with customers in a courteous and effective manner, to ensure all customer requirements are met;
  • Provides sales forecasts and information to superiors required for setting financial targets and developing budget projections;
  • Prepares and issues the appropriate customer requirement summary to Engineering and Operations personnel with the detail required to ensure that customer expectations are met;
  • Prepares and provides billing information in a timely manner to ensure that customers are invoiced efficiently;
  • Participates in rail industry events (trade shows, etc.) and community organizations (e.g. Chamber of Commerce);
  • Provides input to product marketing and sales documents;
  • Territory is Canada, with limited travel to the United States of America;
  • Travel expectancy 75%.

MAJOR QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent, coupled with 8 plus years of direct sales experience; 
  • Highly motivated and, self-directed; possessing excellent presentation and tender response skills;
  • Talented at establishing, developing and maintaining business relationships with current and prospective customers;
  • Ability to provide budget projections and meeting or exceeding sales forecasts;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills supplemented by Word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database and Internet PC skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team orientation;
  • Valid, current drivers’ license;
  • Experience in the rail, transit, bus transportation fields is considered a major asset;
  • Knowledge of sales automation tools Marketing and sales documentation development is considered an asset;
  • Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) is considered an asset.
