TITLE:                        Diesel Mechanics (3) – North Bay

 

REPORTS TO:         Supervisor, Motive Power                 

 

LOCATION:               North Bay

 

 

 

SUMMARY: Diesel Mechanics repair, troubleshoot, adjust, overhaul and maintain Motive Power and other Railway equipment.

 

 

 

FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Perform repairs, dismantles, rebuilds, maintains, installs, adjusts, diagnoses, tests, locomotives and shop machinery and all diesel or gas powered engines including internal oil pumps, transmission systems, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment including braking systems, air compressors, auxiliary power units, rail or rubber tired vehicles including buses, bulldozers, cranes, payloaders, motor cars, motor coaches, locomotives and track equipment.
  • Utilizes precision measuring instruments; such as micrometers, scales, gauges, verniers, squares and indicators and all types of testing equipment such as dynamometer, fuel injection, fluid power equipment, etc. Set up and operates different types of machine shop equipment including CNC equipment used in drilling, milling, turning, and boring.
  • Handle all hand and power tools commonly used in the trade, as well as, electric and gas welding equipment. Follow blueprints, sketches, manufacturer’s patterns, and construction specifications and can adapt to new methods, processes, materials and equipment and all other work generally recognized as diesel mechanic’s work.
  • Shift work is a requirement of the position.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Completion of secondary school or general equivalency diploma in related field.
  • Completion of a Railway Diesel Mechanic apprenticeship or completion of a Heavy Duty Equipment or Truck Coach apprenticeship with a Certificate of Qualification.
  • Possess good interpersonal and communication skills (oral & written).
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a safety-conscious environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.

REPORTS TO:          Express Services Supervisor

LOCATION:               Moosonee

 

FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains timely and accurate inventory records for Yard, Train & Express activities based on communication with operating crews and other external and internal customers.
  • Communicates with customers through personal contact and telephone, providing rates, shipping details and timelines including the preparation of waybills/reports and their subsequent delivery.
  • Performs warehouse duties ensuring local freight is placed for delivery and transship freight is dispatched to correct outbound cars (weighing up to 75 pounds).
  • Weighs outgoing traffic at scale and ensures these details are correctly entered on waybills.
  • Loads and unloads customers’ prepaid vehicles on designated flat cars secured in accordance with current standards and collects revenue as required.
  • Loads and unloads customers’ baggage in designated baggage/line cars and baggage kiosks.
  • CSU Duties as required.
  • Janitorial responsibilities at the Express and Yard offices.
  • Performs above and such other duties as required by Management.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of secondary school or recognized equivalent required.
  • Preference will be given to qualified applicants who are fluent in (English, French and Cree).

TITLE : Customer Service Sales Agent – Spare
REPORTS TO : Customer Care Manager
DEPARTMENT : Passenger Services
LOCATION : Timmins

DESCRIPTION:

The Spare – CSSA reports to the Customer Care Manager. This spare position will be required to fill vacancies over nine Ontario Northland stations between North Bay and Moosonee. When traveling, employees will be provided with on-the-road compensation in accordance with the collective agreement.

MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sells ONTC bus/train and interline tickets.
  • Provides fare and schedule information for all services to the general public.
  • Processes and handles incoming and outgoing Bus Parcel Express and baggage (weighing up to 75 pounds).
  • Performs daily audit functions in order to reconcile paperwork and daily sales.
  • Responds to incoming customer enquiries via email, phone or other correspondence.
  • Relieves Ticket Agents at various Northern Ontario stations.
  • Responds to customer concerns and complaints.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a vehicle.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills and have experience in providing customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have computer skills and experience using Windows based applications.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must project a positive and helpful image at all times.
  • Must have experience in dealing with cash and reconciliation for multiple transactions.
  • Must have the flexibility necessary to adapt to a changing schedule and location. (position requires frequent overnight travel)
  • Preference will be given to qualified applicants who are fluent in both official languages. (English and French)
