The Asset Analyst – Rail Mechanical, represents the department to manage asset data and support key asset management (AM) functions. This individual will develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of the assets being managed, and will apply industry standard best practices to asset data and reliability management at ONTC.

This role is heavily focused on the maintenance of asset data, including standards compliance, continuous improvement, and coordination with other departments to manage complex data changes. Additionally, the Asset Analyst performs functions related to the application and use of asset data, including analysis, risk assessment, capital planning support, etc. This individual will use the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system to make asset hierarchy or asset data changes and run reports.


  • Supports the department in identifying and addressing AM data issues or gaps
  • Identify gaps in data quality and the need for additional data collection efforts or initiatives
  • Carry out changes to the EAM Asset registry data and coordinate with Finance where required
  • Coordinate with the Asset Management Office (AMO) on complex asset data changes, changes to the EAM asset registry, and evaluating the scope and impact of changes
  • Identify any need to assess or update the asset data standards and coordinate with the AMO to correctly define the scope and impact of change requests
  • Support the creation and methodology for asset condition assessments
  • Coordinate planning and execution of asset data and condition gathering efforts including defining criteria for potential vendors
  • Perform quality control on asset data captured through data capture assessments, condition initiatives or asset acquisition events
  • Supports department level EAM System requirements gathering and identification of system enhancements
  • Coordinate with the AMO on complex asset data uploads for asset data/condition initiatives and asset acquisitions
  • Coordinate periodic reviews of data quality and initiate actions to close gaps
  • Identify asset data reporting requirements and coordinate generation and communication of reports and analyses
  • Supports department in development of Asset Management Plans as well as budgeting and other financial analyses
  • Identifies and extracts relevant data to support long and short-term planning and analysis
  • Develops risk profiles for assets based on criticality and relevant information related to failure likelihood
  • Develops and evaluates business cases or capital project funding requests evaluating return on investment and the impact on asset risk
  • Conducts asset scenario modeling using the Decision Support System or other applicable tools
  • Leverages Data Analytics to develop and maintain AM Dashboards (Strategic, Tactical and Operational)
  • Assesses the current performance of assets and enacts measure to close gaps
  • Supports maintenance optimization activities such as Reliability Centered Maintenance
  • Attends maintenance strategy meetings
  • Analyzes asset data and conducts maintenance related analyses like Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Failure reviews, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by department as it relates to Asset Management



  • University degree or college diploma in Engineering, Business, Finance, Accounting or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experienc
  • 3-5 years’ experience in an industrial shop maintenance, or operational environment in a data management intensive role
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate and present results of analyses and reports
  • Excellent financial literacy, knowledge of capital planning, and business case requirements
  • Extensive experience in data analysis, particularly monitoring and assessing asset related performance and presenting corrective remedies and plans
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Strong background in asset management and knowledge of asset management principles is considered an asset
  • Thorough knowledge of rail, remanufacturing and motor coach industries an asset
  • Able to conform to shifting priorities
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Proven experience as a customer-service leader with the ability to demonstrate value-add service delivery to key stakeholder and clients
