The Manager of Production Planning is responsible for the planning of production or manufacturing tasks in the car shop, utilizing resource allocations, parts and production capacity.  


  • Accountable for the overall implementation and execution of the production planning process, generation of daily production schedule and analysis, alignment of operational assets, and managing and updating production planning tools for each car type or product family
  • Responsible for safe, effective and efficient management of station 10
  • Lead and manage all aspects of the production planning and detailed outage planning processes to align operational interests into executable operating plan for each car type or project family
  • Maintain and improve planning and scheduling tools for increased accuracy, improved business performance, and processes
  • Adapts production plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges
  • Collects and assesses data about the production and team's performance
  • Identify production risks/delays and risk mitigation plan
  • Conducts daily production planning meetings with front line Supervisors
  • Coordinating production workflow for all Supervisors on one or multiple projects
  • Work with the Production Manager, ensure that resources are in alignment with production capacity
  • Work with Purchasing, ensure that material orders and lead-time work with product delivery timelines
  • Monitors, tracks, and reports critical task related inventories
  • Work with Fabrication (FAB) Supervisor to produce a FAB production schedule detailing all tasks and when they should be completed
  • Work with IT in the Repair and Refurbishment Production (RRP) system to ensure planning and scheduling components are accurate. Be a knowledge expert on the RRP planning and scheduling as well as the Reuse Parts system and train others as required
  • Provide input to the company business systems roadmap as subject matter expert in Planning
  • Other duties as required



  • University degree/college diploma in engineering, manufacturing, business or related discipline considered an asset
  • 5+ years’ experience in manufacturing or remanufacturing industry
  • Minimum of 5 years production planning experience
  • Previous supervisory experience is considered an asset
  • Excellent working knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills
  • Project management experience would be considered an asset
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral & written)
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Committed to Company Health and Safety
  • Flexibility to spend additional time on the job beyond normal working hours
  • Thorough technical knowledge in rail passenger cars is considered an asset
  • Ability to interpret drawings/blueprints
