POSITION:                  Terminal Support Worker (Replacement)

DEPARTMENT:           Rail Transportation

REPORTS TO:            Customer Service Supervisor

LOCATION:                 Englehart

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:

Responsible for the relief of regular employees permanently assigned to the Customer Service Unit and Janitorial Services as well as spare shifts as required.


MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides relief for the Customer Service Unit
  • Maintain timely accurate railcar event records in the RMI system (including received and delivered interchanges, placements, releases, pulls, delays, holds, rejects, bad orders, arrivals and departures) through various methods of communicating with other internal departments, local customers and interchanging railroads.
  • Provide operating crew with switching requirements (for local customers/mechanical bad order repairs and releases
  • Responsible for calling all train crew employees (USW-Agreement #8) on the system including Freight and Passenger Trains, all Yard Assignments, Recrew, Rescue, Work Trains and away from home crew calling
  • Tracks and records train crew employee mileage
  • Responsible for tracking Work/Rest hours of duty     
  • Advertising and awarding temporary/permanent train crew job vacancies
  • Maintains crew calling books manually/electronically
  • Provides information to individual train crew employees by telephone, fax, electronic format
  • Ensure the communication of timely and accurate yard inventory through communication with yard operating crews and by conducting an occasional audit of the yard (Yard check) and participate in group reviews for improvement
  • Assist in the formalizing of processes and communication methods and paths particular to the Englehart Operation
  • Scales cars
  • Performs yard checks
  • Performs janitorial duties
  • Performs other related duties as required

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 Ontario Secondary School diploma (OSSD) or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Valid G driver’s license in Ontario=
  • Previous cleaning experience would be considered an asset
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Previous clerical experience would be considered an asset
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Must have a good working knowledge of computers and strong keyboarding skills
  • Must be able to work shift work (24 hour operation)
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work schedule/shifts
  • Working knowledge of collective agreements an asset
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Committed to Company Health and Safety
