Newmarket Subdivision Acquisition
Project Overview:
Ontario Northland is pleased to share that its rail network has been extended by more than 200 kilometers, between North Bay and Washago.
The acquisition of the Newmarket Subdivision represents an investment of $138 million in transportation infrastructure for the province.
The Northlander is a critical component of Ontario’s integrated transportation network, connecting northern and southern communities, supporting local industries and driving economic growth.
Benefits:
Northlander passengers will benefit from a consistent, comfortable travel experience, with a renewed focus on passenger rail services.
The acquisition of the Newmarket Subdivision will ensure the Northlander service has priority along this section of the corridor, supporting on-time performance and a more dependable travel experience for passengers.
Ontario Northland freight operations will be streamlined by eliminating transfers in North Bay and growing operating capacity.
Annual freight revenue will increase due to additional haulage, switching, and ancillary revenues.
