First Northlander Trainset Arrives in Ontario
Project Overview:
The arrival of the first Northlander trainset in Ontario marks a significant milestone for the new era of passenger rail service in the north.
This milestone demonstrates Ontario Northland’s ongoing progress in providing a modern and accessible passenger rail service.
In the coming months, the trainset will undergo substantial testing and commissioning, before in-service.
Two additional trainsets are being manufactured for the service, expected to be delivered in 2026.

- Passenger cars are equipped with spacious, mobility aid accessible washrooms and thoughtfully designed flooring to ensure safe, easy movement throughout long journeys.
- Each trainset features accessible boarding equipment and dedicated spaces for mobility aids, providing ample room and comfort for passengers who use mobility devices.
- Features including seat numbers and call-for-aid buttons are marked with Braille signage to enhance accessibility for passengers with visual impairments.
- Onboard announcements are delivered in both audio and visual formats, making important information clear and accessible to all passengers.
- Boarding and deboarding are safe and simple for everyone, with lifts enabling passengers with mobility aids to enter and exit comfortably and with confidence.
